ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM KNEE ARTHRITIS PAIN THAT’S STOPPING YOU FROM BEING ACTIVE, AND HAS YOU WORRIED ABOUT KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY?

Living with knee osteoarthritis can be a massive challenge to your lifestyle.

It can make the simplest of tasks feel impossible. Things like getting up to visit the bathroom in the morning to walking around a large store.

But there are ways to treat knee osteoarthritis naturally for long-term relief, despite what your friends, family, and even your doctor may have told you. Even in cases where doctors have recommended knee replacement surgery!

WHAT CAUSES KNEE ARTHRITIS FOR PEOPLE OF EL PASO?

Knee osteoarthritis is typically caused by muscle imbalances where the muscles on one side of the hip and thigh become too weak, making the muscles on the other side relatively too strong. This causes bad forces to go through the knee joint. Over time, the extra pressure damages the cartilage and bone.

SYMPTOMS OF KNEE ARTHRITIS

Knee osteoarthritis typically presents as stiffness and pain in the knee first thing in the morning. The stiffness may last a minute in mild cases and hours in severe cases. It causes knee pain, at times swelling, after being on your feet for too long. As it progresses, some people lose motion in their knee and are left unable to straighten or bend the painful knee as much as the other side. The knee pain is typically right in the knee joint, but there is often pain in the hip, thigh, calf and even in the foot.

Knee pain due to osteoarthritis can be persistent and interfere with daily activities, or it may come and go. In some cases, the knee might become so irritated that it is difficult to sleep at night.

A Baker’s Cyst, which is fluid that collects in the back of the knee where it bends, sometimes develops with knee arthritis. It happens when the knee joint makes extra fluid in order to protect the surfaces inside. But if there’s too much, it might start to collect in the bend of the knee, making it uncomfortable and even painful to bend the leg.

In addition to aches and pains, knee arthritis can have psychological effects as well. It can stop you from doing the activities that you love, as well as have a severe effect on your mobility and independence. If you’ve got knee arthritis pain, you may even feel isolated because of your condition, or even scared about what the future holds for you.

TREATMENT FOR KNEE ARTHRITIS

Doctors treat knee osteoarthritis by telling their patients to rest, take pain medications as needed, or visit them for injections if it gets really bad. Basically, wait for the knee to deteriorate enough to need knee replacement surgery.

They’ll show patients their knee x-rays and point out how the spacing between the thigh bone and the shin bone is smaller than it should be. They might even show you changes in the bone that are visible and tell you that your cartilage is worn out. If the bones look like they’re touching on the x-ray, then they’ll say that you have a “bone-on-bone” knee joint. They’ll use that as a reason to have surgery.

But what these doctors have no clue about is how muscle imbalances work and how they’re the real root of the problem. They also don’t think that it’s possible to improve the knee joint from the way it looks on the x-rays. These doctors rarely, if ever, consider what is happening at your hip and foot, two important areas that HIGHLY influence the pressure at the knee joint.

X-rays, MRIs and CT scans are just snapshots of the inside of the knee. They show what the knee joint looks like at the time of the image. If the root problem of knee osteoarthritis is a muscle imbalance, then it’s going to cause lots of compression in your knee joint and even give the appearance of a “bone-on-bone” knee joint.

What would happen if you take off the pressure? Could the x-ray look better? These are questions that doctors don’t think to ask, because they’re so focused on treatment with medications, injections and surgery. After all, they’re doctors of medicine, with some who have specialties in surgery.

Here at my knee specialist clinic, we treat knee osteoarthritis by correcting the muscle imbalances around the knee joint to decompress it naturally. This is how you can get natural relief. Taking pressure off will allow the cartilage to heal, the fluid build up to reduce (for a Baker’s Cyst), the stiffness to go away, and the mobility to come back.

Finally, we also strongly believe that you should be able to keep these improvements for the long-term if we can help show you what to do. And it’s not keeping up an hour’s worth of exercises and stretches every day for the rest of your life. It may be an exercise once or twice a week and for some, there may not be any exercises needed at all. We work to make it as easy as possible for you.
